YPS-Pictures, embroidered, 1976

In the 1970s there was a children’s magazine called “Yps” whose selling point was the toy gimmick included in each issue. In winter 1976 it was a pinhole camera to be assembled from plastic components. The editors had chosen me as a test photographer. I used it to photograph this series in the Englischer Garten in Munich. With this camera, I spent a day taking pictures in Munich's English Garden. I embroidered some of the pictures in this series. I was thinking of my mother, who, when I was a child, always had a mountain of mending and darning to do for the family of nine.
